Joanna Fiakkas

Jo has been practising yoga since 1999. After experiencing first hand the profound effects yoga has, both mentally and physically, she found herself thinking that the world would be a better place if everyone came to know the practice and benefits of Yoga. This led to undertaking the BWY teacher training and has been teaching since 2008.

Fortunate enough to grow up with some knowledge of the philosophical and spiritual underpinnings of yoga, this remains a strong focus both in her own practice and in her teaching. She has a particular interest in how such teachings can enhance physical, breathing, meditation, as well as chanting practices, and also in turn, how these can support an experiential understanding and knowledge of the philosophical and spiritual aspects.

Her growing interest in how yoga can be used therapeutically has expanded into Ayurvedic teachings and practices, completing the BWY Foundation course in Ayurveda in 2011 and undertaking the 2-year Yoga Therapy Diploma with YogaCampus, qualifying as a Yoga Therapist in February 2023.

Jo is also an Occupational Therapist and a Family practitioner working in the NHS mental health services since 2006. As such she has a wealth of experience in supporting others through mental distress and empowering them to find inner resilience and spaces of inner comfort and self knowledge.

Classes have a strong emphasis on the breath and the felt experience, bringing awareness to their connection, together with movement which can bring about a sense of physical fluidity and ease, maintain a flow and rhythm, and can have a profound emotional impact.

Simon Hannaford

Simon has been practising yoga on and off since 2005. Over the years he has experimented with various embodied modalities including Tai chi, drawn to its focus of manifesting energy. He embarked on the British Wheel of Yoga Teacher Training Diploma in 2017, after completing the Foundation Course and has been teaching since 2018.

Simon has also been a Senior Lecturer in Occupational Therapy at Canterbury Christ Church University with a particular interest in the effects the environment can have on our ability to function and perform our daily activities, duties and occupations, within it . This also extends to one's yoga practice and as such he has experimented with adapting his own personal practice within various environments, observing the effects and impact both physically and energetically.

Part of the experiment extends to classes taking place in the woods, embracing and welcoming nature as part of the practice.

"Yoga can be many things at different times, and serve different purposes to meet different needs. Ultimately however it is the place where we meet ourselves, where we check in everyday, where we initiate the experiments of living and observing our ability to to be present with ourselves. Where we cultivate acceptance for all of our parts and practice, being, so we can take all that learning off the mat and put it into good use when we interact with each other. When, intentionally or unintentionally, we make ripples, beyond our reach or our wildest imagination.

My hope is that my practice on the mat, will translate as better, positive ripples, once they start to reach you.

It's a hope.

And a practice."
